Pre Treatment

  • No Accutane use for 6 months prior to treatment.
  • Do not tan the areas being treated for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Do not use self-tanning products for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Stop all Retin-A, Retinol, Renova, aha or bha acids, bleaching creams, and exfliants 3-4 days prior to treatment.
  • The treatment area must be free of any open sores, lesions or skin infections. For treatment of pigmented skin lesions, you should consult a physician if there is a family or personal history of skin cancer or if you have these concerns.
  • Shave any hair present in the area to be treated. Men should shave the beard area twice in succession in order to ensure as close a shave as possible.
  • Gently wash the area to be treated, removing makeup, lotion, etc. Do not apply any creams, lotions or other products to the area.
  • You cannot be pregnant or breast feeding to receive treatment.
  • If you have a history of oral herpes, it is suggested to pre-treat with an anti-viral three days before your scheduled visit.

Post Treatment

  • You may have a mild to moderate sunburned feeling that will usually subside within a few hours, but may persist for up to 2-3 days. Cold compresses may be applied and you may take acetaminophen to help with any discomfort.
  • Freckles/sun spots may darken over the next few days and may scab over. These will gradually fade and flake off in 1-2 weeks. They will appear less pigmented and fade with treatments.
  • Do not pick, scratch, or rub at any scabbing or crusts, as this may cause scarring.
  • Microdermabrasion can be performed 2 weeks post treatment to aid in skin exfoliation.
  • Facial veins may be red, have mild swelling, and have some bruising that will resolve within 1-2 weeks.
  • Mineral makeup like Jane Iredale can be applied as long as the skin is not broken.
  • Do not use Retin-A, Renova (or other retinoid/vitamin A containing products), abrasive or exfoliating sponges/scrubs, aha or bha acids, or alcohol containing solutions until the skin heals (1-2 weeks). Use gentle unscented cleansers to wash and keep the skin well moisturized.
  • Protect your skin from sun exposure at all times with a sunscreen of at least SPF 25 or greater for the next 6 weeks to avoid burning and sun induced brown discolouration of the skin.
  • Blistering is uncommon and when it occurs it is generally not serious. In the rare case that blistering or excessive scabbing occurs, please contact our office as soon as possible.
  • Do not use any self tanning products for at least 2 weeks after your treatment and at least 2 weeks prior to your next treatment.
  • Avoid hot baths, showers, steam baths, or saunas for 1 week post treatment and avoid the day of your treatment. Hot and humid conditions can aggravate the skin and cause dilation of blood vessels, which will decrease the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating for 24-48 hours.
  • Avoid swimming in chlorinated/salted water for 1 week post treatment.
